Witte

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name:Witte
  • Brewery: Ommegang (Cooperstown, New York)
  • Style: Belgian White
  • ABV: 5.1%
  • IBU: 11
  • Pour Color: An extremely light cloudy white

The Face had three different Ommegang flavors at his store for a tasting (Rare vos, Hennepin). Out of the three this one is third and still really great. A nice foamy head quickly dissipates and leaves the beer behind. A clove scent hits you and mixes well with the orange blossom in the taste. A really really light beer the summer witte really is a great beer year round!
Ommegang really isn't that far from me and the Face in upstate, NY.  They really are doing something different then most breweries in America with Belgian style beers. In a world of craft IPA's, this company really gives you a good change of pace with interesting styles and flavors.

Hennepin

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Hennepin
  • Brewery: Ommegang (New York)
  • Style: Farmhouse Saison
  • ABV: 7.7%
  • IBU: 26.6
  • Pour Color: A Golden transparent color.

The Hennepin from Ommegang is a incredible beer. A slightly sweet gingery scent sets the stage for this beer. The head was creamy but gave way after a sip or two. After the first splash you realize this is not a hop lovers dream. The ginger gives it a nice spice on taste and the malts mix well with that spice. With 7.7% ABV you can tell that this is a big time ale. As your sipping it though it's hard to tell. A nice easy drinking high alcohol beer. So nice out of a growler too.
This, just like the Rare Vos, is a real unique beer. This nearly has the alcohol level of a imperial IPA without any of the hops or bitterness. Yet doesn't go the other direction either and do a stout. A extremely easy drinking beer that could get a light beer drinker in trouble. On a warm day this is a delicious beer to have at the tailgate party.

Rare Vos

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Rare Vos
  • Style: Belgian Amber
  • ABV: 6.5%
  • IBU: 24
  • Pour Color: A Copper color. Slightly cloudy.

The first thing to hit me is the creamy head of this beer. All I could smell after being bathed in it is the usual clove, almost banana scents of a Belgian beer. The complexities of this brew are amazing. This beer has a nice combination of spices. They hit the tastebuds and mix well with a sweet taste of orange. As you swallow it down the hops and malts leave your stash wanting more. Luckily the Face got a growler of it.
www.Greatbrewers.com suggests pairing this beer with pizza. For the Superbowl party the Face and his family made home made Chinese dinner.   Let me tell you that this beer easily pairs with the fried rice and cabbage egg-rolls. I can tell you cause all of them got stuck in me. Couldn't have asked for a better meal, a better time, or a better beer.
