Sun Block

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Sun Block
  • Brewery: Captain Lawrence Brewing Company (New York)
  • Style: Unfiltered Wheat
  • ABV: 4.5
  • IBU:
  • Pour Color: A hazy yellow pour with a fluffy light head.

Poured into a typical pint glass and it was hazy and yellow. Light made it through but you couldn't see through this beer. The top had a yeasty sour dough scent that mixed with a slight hops presence. The feel in the mouth wasn't that much different then most summer beers. It has a little more heartiness because of the unfiltered quality. The taste was a bitter sour dough. As you swallow you get a nice wheat character. It's really a drinkable pale wheat beer for summer.
Another summer beer but this one says unfiltered. So i made sure every bit of that yeast bed came back up. When a company points out an unfiltered beer it's the only thing to do. I also think this was important because it adds to the variety of flavors and textures in the bottle. Those flavors and textures really help add to the uniqueness of this beer. I like this beer a lot and would probably grab six packs again and again in the summer.

Hefeweizen

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Hefeweizen
  • Brewery: Pyramid Brewing Co. (Washington)
  • Style: Hefeweizen
  • ABV: 5.2%
  • IBU:
  • Pour Color: A slightly orange color and very cloudy

As you smell this one you get a nice wheat and yeast scent off the top. The color was a very very murky orange to gold. The head foamed up quick and was very fluffy. It fought well for a sip or two, but my follicles took it down, leaving a thin white layer for the rest of the beer. This one has a nice rich wheat flavor and body on the taste. You notice citrus tones through out the beer as you sip. A bath in this one isn't to sweet and makes for a nice smooth experience.
This is another really good beer from pyramid. Blending the normal tones of a Hefe but balancing it more toward the light wheat beer then super sweet orange tones. Not everything you want from a hefe but very smooth and full of flavor!

Harpoon Raspberry Wheat

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Harpoon Raspberry UFO
  • Brewery: Harpoon Brewing Company (Massachusetts)
  • Style: Raspberry Hefeweizen
  • ABV:5.1%
  • IBU:10
  • Pour Color: Dark red and murky.

Looked very thick on the pour. Murky and unfiltered  as advertised. This mustache expected a lot of flavor out of it. The head was gone quickly and left no trace. The scent off the glass was a strong sweet raspberry scent. Upon hitting the follicles I began to wonder if we had messed up. This one was so sweet that it could have been a soda. The malts are a light after taste when you swallow. Not my favorite beer.
This one is so strong in raspberry that I would only recommend it to non-beer drinkers. No real hop character or strong malt flavor. Just a strong sweet taste of raspberry. Not the kind of thing this mustache likes.

Apricot Ale

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Apricot Ale
  • Brewery: Pyramid (Washington)
  • Style: Unfiltered Fruit Beer
  • ABV: 5.1%
  • IBU:11
  • Pour Color: A nice orange, very cloudy

A nice shape and color to this bottle. Think the Face bought it because of the spring color. As soon as the bottle opens you smell the apricot. The pour was a good looking orange with light having trouble coming through. As you taste it you realize this is what it says. A strong taste of apricot almost approaching peach with the sweetness. The beer however also is unfiltered adding a nice body to the fruit beer. This one also lacks a artificial taste of the fruit that some of the apricot beers have. Honestly a nice light beer for a nice summer day. I found this one strong flavored but refreshing.
After a long day of digging through cob webs, and getting them stuck in these curls, this is a beer to take a bath in. Light, but full of the apricot flavor. I was really presently surprised with this beer. I know for a fact I will be getting another six pack soon.
