Mardi Gras Bock

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Mardi Gras Bock
  • Brewery: Abita Brewing Company (Louisiana)
  • Style: MaiBock
  • ABV: 6.5%
  • IBU: 25
  • Pour Color: A copper golden color

You get both the yeast and the malts in the scent off the top. The head hung out rather low for a good portion of the glass. Slight traces of lacing on the sides. The color was a copperish golden color. It could easily be seen thru. The malt and yeast though tell this beers story. You got a nice mix of sweet malt and bread tones. The hops just helps add a little contrast that doesn't over take the beer. The yeast and the malts also echo long after the sip! Not really ballenced but actually very easy for a mustache to swim in frequently.
Abita makes some good products. Another seasonal from them and another I would have again and again. Malty and hearty while not being to think to drink a whole night. Although the 6.5% ABV may be a little high to have all night. It's just a beer that any whiskers should be pleased with!

Pecan Harvest Ale

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Pecan Harvest Ale
  • Brewery: Abita Brewing Company (Louisiana)
  • Style: Nut Brown Ale
  • ABV: 5.2%
  • IBU: 20
  • Pour Color: A nice see thru orange color

A decent head came up to about two fingers high. The scent off the glass nutty malty scent. A nice caramel scent too. The color is that of autumn leaves. The taste is a nice roasted nutty mix, amazing really. I find such a light full flavored beer is really refreshing. The roasty nut flavors echos after a swallow to delicious.
This is my favorite harvest ale, from Abita, so far. Infact the amount of nut flavor you get from the pecans makes this one of my favorite beers. Slightly thinner body to this one then most. Really a lighter beer that delivers the kinds of nut and roasted flavor you expect from a dark beer.

Strawberry Harvest

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Strawberry Harvest
  • Brewery: Abita Brewing (Louisiana)
  • Style: Fruit Beer
  • ABV: 4.2%
  • IBU:13
  • Pour Color: A slightly hazy color but totally golden.

The Face poured this one and it had a head that disappeared quick. The color was golden and hazy, but, light traveled through easy. The scent off the glass was a nice clean strawberry smell. You expect the strawberry to be overbearing but it's not. Light, but clearly their, it really is the taste of a ripe strawberry. It also has a nice citrus taste. As you swallow the nice strong taste of wheat really comes through giving you a great range of flavors. This is a delicious and refreshing beer.
This is our first taste of Louisiana and it's starting out great! This is by far my favorite fruit beer I have tasted. Crisp and refreshing it's a great beer to bathe in. On a hot summer day, when you're gonna have four or five, this fruit beer wouldn't be bad at all. I know the Face will be splashing this one on me again real soon.
