Nighttime ale

The Beer Stats:

  • Beer Name: NightTime Ale
  • Brewery: Lagunitas Brewing Company (California)
  • Style: Black IPA
  • ABV: 8.6%
  • IBU: 73.4
  • Pour Color: Black as night!

NightTime Ale poured black as night. Light had no business even trying to pass thru this one. The head even had a dark shade to it showing how much dark malt was in it. The lacing lasted most of the glass as it fought valiantly against my follicles. The scent of the hops had a nice pine citrus mix. The bouquet was rounded out with roasted caramel scent. First sip was a explosion of flavors. The hops and the malts were way over the top but only got better as the face swallowed. The malts come thru as a slightly sweet flavor but the roasted malt bitterness really just added to the hops. Citrus and pine tried to over whelm but the malts held there own. Great great beer!
Lagunitas.... Ohhh how do I love thee... Let me count the ways! Very few beer companies knock it out of the park nearly every beer you have. That's what Lagunitas does. There hop heavy beers are amazing and the back bone of there business. It's beers like night time that make you realize that Lagunitas knows it's niche but can also cross over into dark stuff. Yeah it's still hop heavy but it also makes you think of chocolate and coffee more then most straight up malty beers. Kudos again to one of the breweries that makes me love drinking beers!

Undercover Investigation Shut Down Ale (2013)

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Undercover Investigation Shut Down Ale (2013)
  • Brewery: Lagunitus Brewing Company (California)
  • Style: Strong Ale
  • ABV: 9.6%
  • IBU: 74
  • Pour Color: A red tinted golden pour that can easily be seen thru.

The pour came out how I expected. The head was fluffy and left lacing for most the glass. It's see thru and bubbly. This beer has a nice red color. The scent came off the bottle as soon as I popped the top! The sweet caramel malts mix well with the nice bitter hop blend in the bouquet. Somewhere between IPA and ESB in flavor profile. You deffinitly don't get a 9.6% abv flavor off of it. Sweet fresh malts with a nice mix of spicy hops that aren't too over bearing. All around another great beer from lagunitus!
Another long name for a really really good beer. It's dedicated to the police that shut them down. Who couldn't love a beer or a company that does that kind of thing. Not as bitter as you would expect though. Strong, delicious, and putting it to the man! If you can't get behind at least one of those things then I would just stay away from lagunitus... Cause this is just what they do and they do it well!

Censored

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Censored
  • Brewery: Lagunitas Brewing Company (California)
  • Style: Amber Ale
  • ABV: 6.75%
  • IBU: 25.08
  • Pour Color: A hazy deep amber color that light gets thru.

The pour came out with a nice fluffy head. It lasted a little while before disappearing. The scent off the top was malt heavy. Strong aroma of toasty caramel malts of some sort. The color of the beer was a darker amber that had a haze to it. The flavor of the beer was much less sweet then the scent would have led me to believe. This beer has a character that is unusual for a amber ale. It's got a full body and a malty taste that just is bigger then most ambers. The yeast and the toasted malt mix to give you a nice fresh bread or biscuit flavor. On swallow you get that familuar red ale finish of caramalts. A nice amber ale in my opinion.
Most amber ales just are fairly boring to this mustache. I'm actually more inclined to grab a wheat ale. That being said this is a lot different. Normally if I'm going to give a amber a distinction it's cause of the hop heavy way they did it. This beer here has little hop flavor but still awakes the taste buds. Another swim in this one is gonna be come shortly cause this is a good beer!

Lagunitas Sucks

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Lagunitas Sucks
  • Brewery: Lagunitas Brewing Company (California)
  • Style: Imperial IPA
  • ABV: 7.85
  • IBU: 63.21
  • Pour Color: Gold easily light travels thru!

The scent off the top is all IPA! Color is just a golden color that is easily seen thru. The scent off the top is a strong pineapple/citrus scent. The head came up and stayed very fluff for most the glass. Lacing from the head was seen the whole way down. The taste is a mix of citrus and grassy hops to me. The malts have a nice backing that really gets nearly drown out by the hops. It seems to try to be ballenced but really has that hop kick you would expect from a IIPA!
Lagunitas sucks.... Not my experience but I also haven't tasted Brown Shugga before. Maybe not having it really does make them suck. Me though I love the IPA and I love Maximus! IPA's ain't a problem for Lagunitus and this isn't an exception. Delicious, bitter, and all the tastes you'd expect in a IPA. Let the other idiot faces think this beer or Lagunitas sucks you and this mustache know better!

Lagunitas IPA

The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Lagunitas IPA
  • Brewery: Lagunitas Brewing Company (California)
  • Style: IPA
  • ABV: 6.2%
  • IBU:
  • Pour Color: A golden see through color slightly orange.

The pour brought about a head that wouldn't quit. Even when I thought I had beat it down it sat at half a finger. The color was a light see thru copper. Smelling the top of this one is a real treat. Nothing but pine, grass and citrus hitting you in the face. The taste is a little different. The malts really do hold there own making this bitter treat quite ballenced. The hops on taste are much more the grassy earthy veriety then the scent would lead you to belive. It really has a very fresh hop taste and that flavor echos long after you have swallowed. With the malts having a slight sweetness everything in this one just works!
WOW! This is a great IPA. Bitter but still ballenced with a sweet malt it works well. My other favorite Lagunitas brew is hop stoopid and it's hard to compare. The Imperial IPA is nothing but hops. This is alot more then just hops. Refreshing and delicious, you're really lucky if your gas station has this one in town! So GO GET IT!

Hop Stoopid

even the picture got stoopid
The Beer Stats:
  • Beer Name: Hop Stoopid
  • Brewery:Lagunitas brewing company (California)
  • Style: Imperial IPA
  • ABV: 8%
  • IBU:102
  • Pour Color: A transparent golden color

I saw the bottle for Hop Stoopid and went, great Face is gonna try and make me drink malt liquor. I was wrong! This is just a pool of hops. Upon pour you smell the pine scented hops. As it splashes up I'm deep in a see of bitter brew. It's frightening how bitter this is while being fairly easy to drink. The hops give this one a nice pine taste. Ohhh and this one echos that bold flavor long after the swallow is gone too. Another hop chewing section with this one but who can complain?
I see more and more high ABV wine coolers in the local store then ever. Those nasty drinks that have a 8% label but taste like crap. This is one of the easiest drinking Imperial IPAs I have had. With real flavor and a high ABV it's a good thing I could only get a 22oz bottle. This one you could get into trouble with real quick. After half the bottle i'm glad this wax is holding me up.
